CPN Blog about the Latin-American Session On the 30thof October we had our first Latin-American CPN session in Barranquilla, Colombia. It involved talks from the founder and co-chair of the CPN, Professor Dave Nicholls, Co-chair Alma Viviana Silva and member of CPN executive, Dr Aydee Robayo with a 30 minute Q & A session. Following these talks was a practical session where we produced a physio-zine on the day.As I mentioned in a previous post: “A zine is an underground publication with political messages without censorship. You can express yourself without the constraints of media” There were two essential activities needed in preparation for the … [Read more...] about Report from the first Latin-American CPN session in Barranquilla, Colombia

Experiments in Physiotherapy Education – Unconference #1
To coincide with this year's WCPT Congress in Geneva, Michael Rowe, Ben Ellis, and the rest of our good friends at InBeta will be hosting the first In Beta Experiments in Physiotherapy Education Unconference on the 14th and 15th May 2019 at Haute Ecole de Santé Vaud (HESAV) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The idea is to break away from the traditional conference format and try something new. At a traditional conference, the programme is designed in advance and the only choices you have are which pre-prepared sessions you attend. A bit like going to a restaurant with a set menu. But sometimes you just want to get a few friends around the barbeque and cook whatever people bring. This is an … [Read more...] about Experiments in Physiotherapy Education – Unconference #1
CPN Salon 2019
Many of you who attended our last CPN Salon at the last WCPT meeting in Cape Town will remember what a fantastic day we had. Meeting so many members face-to-face, as well as the great presentations and fabulous venue made for a memorable day. We're starting to make plans for a repeat event in Geneva, probably on the day after the WCPT Congress, and we'd like to know if you'd be interested in attending. We plan to run the day in a similar way to the last one, so there will be some talks, some workshops, and, of course, some hearty debate and discussion. So if you'd keen to know more or register your interest, please email Jenny Setchell and she will add you to the contact … [Read more...] about CPN Salon 2019
Critical physios represented at ISIH conference in Mallorca
Physiotherapists were very well represented at this year's In Sickness and In Health conference in Mallorca. Over the three days of the conference, 12 members of the CPN presented, and the standard of the work was as high as anything offered internationally. There were strong presentations on the application of phenomenology to practice, non-medical prescribing, professional competencies and embodied knowledge, discourses of cure and care, personal narratives in weight loss surgery advertising, practice regulation, the construction of fat bodies, artisanal practice, family-based care, post-structural analyses of movement, theories of health policy, and notions of inclusion for disabled … [Read more...] about Critical physios represented at ISIH conference in Mallorca
Idea 9: Meet in Mallorca around the ISIH conference (2 mins)
Every day during September we will post up an idea for you to vote on. The most popular ideas will become the things that the inaugural Organizing Committee of the Critical Physiotherapy Network focuses on in 2015. So please make sure you cast your vote at the bottom of each post. Late last week, I posted the announcement of the 6th International In Sickness and In Health Conference which will be in Mallorca from June 10-12 next year. Coincidentally, one of our members is an Associate Professor at the University of the Balearic Islands which is hosting the conference. On seeing the message, Berta (Dr Berta Paz Lourido) kindly volunteered to host us for a pre- or post-conference … [Read more...] about Idea 9: Meet in Mallorca around the ISIH conference (2 mins)
Idea 1: A colloquium in the South of France (2 mins)
Every day during September we will post up an idea for you to vote on. The most popular ideas will become the things that the inaugural Organizing Committee of the Critical Physiotherapy Network focuses on in 2015. So please make sure you cast your vote at the bottom of each post. 10 years ago, as I was just starting out on my PhD, one of my supervisors suggested that I attend the 'In Sickness and In Health' conference in Reykjavik that year. The conference was organized by a group of critical and radical health researchers who had come together a few years before and realized that they needed a forum to exchange ideas and support each others' research. (You can read the programme … [Read more...] about Idea 1: A colloquium in the South of France (2 mins)
