A short CPN update

04/12/2018 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

' A few noteworthy events have happened at CPN Towers over the last few weeks. CPN Exec calls for more critical scholarship Firstly, an editorial written by various members of the CPN Exec appeared in Physiotherapy Canada today.  Titled Infusing Rehabilitation with Critical Research and Scholarship: A Call to Action, the paper followed a conversation with Prof Dina Brooks after our last CPN Salon in Cape Town last year.  Dina challenged the CPN to do more to explain criticality to physiotherapists, and this paper was part of that conversation (full pdf here). Planning for 2019 Secondly, we had our end-of-year strategic planning meeting last week and had the full Executive present: myself … [Read more...] about A short CPN update

What’s going on with the CPN?

13/03/2018 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

It's been a few months since we last gave you an update on what the Critical Physiotherapy Network is up to, so here's a short summary of things we've done recently and some of the projects we've got in the pipeline.  As always, if you'd like to be involved in anything that we're doing, just get in touch.  Add a comment to the post, send us an email, Tweet us (@CriticaPhysio) or message us on Facebook (@CriticalPhysiotherapyNetwork). Our first co-authored book - Manipulating Practices: A critical physiotherapy reader - has been an incredible success.  Published by Norway's foremost scientific and technical publisher - Cappelen Damm Forlag - it has been downloaded more than any other book … [Read more...] about What’s going on with the CPN?

CPN End of Year Report Card

20/12/2017 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

It seems we say this every year, but 2017 was another bumper year for the CPN. We've continued to grow in size, now with over 650 members.  This year alone we've added 185 new members from 41 countries, thanks, in part, to the work we did at WCPT in Cape Town. The Focused Symposium that we ran was a huge success, and it's fair to say we were all a little surprised by the reception we received.  Our one-day post-conference 'Salons' held simultaneously in Cape Town and Cardiff were also great opportunities to grow and support the CPN family. Perhaps the biggest achievement of the year, however, has been the creation of the first ever published collection of critical physiotherapy … [Read more...] about CPN End of Year Report Card

Celebrations over, now back to work

11/07/2017 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

By anyone's estimations, the CPN events at the WCPT Congress in Cape Town this last week were a huge success.  Thanks goes to a lot of people, not least Jenny Setchell, Michael Rowe and Nicky Wilson in Cape Town and Gwyn Owen in Cardiff, for organising and running things. Here are some highlights: The biggest face-to-face meeting of the CPN Exec we've ever been able to hold, as a time for reflection on the Network's future; A Focused Symposium that ran like clockwork and delivered to around 200 people, with four fantastic founding members of the Network delivering powerful, thought-provoking, and often challenging material; A series of workshops and papers presented by CPN … [Read more...] about Celebrations over, now back to work

CPN at WCPT – update

04/07/2017 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

As I write this, we've just completed the second of three main CPN events that were planned for the WCPT congress here in Cape Town. On Sunday morning, eight of the nine CPN members met up for a strategic planning meeting, where we talked about how the CPN might develop in the coming years.  More on this after the CPN Salon on Wednesday. The second event was the Focused Symposium at the congress itself.  To recap, the WCPT only awards a limited number of Focused Symposia at each congress, and so we were very fortunate that our application to hold a symposium on critical thinking was accepted.  I chaired the session and Mershen Pillay, Viviana Silva, Jenny Setchell and Barbara … [Read more...] about CPN at WCPT – update

Last week we had our 11th CPN Exec meeting of the year, the second with our newest member Wenche Bjorbækmo who, with her colleagues Tobba Sudmann and Tone Dahl Michelsen, will bring a stronger connection to our many Scandinavian members.  The Exec now has nine members, in alphabetical order they are: Wenche Bjorbækmo (Norway) Barbara Gibson (Canada) Viviana Silva Guerrero (Australia/Colombia) Simon Kirkegaard (Australia/Denmark) Dave Nicholls (New Zealand) Gywn Owen (UK) Michael Rowe (South Africa) Jenny Setchell (Australia/Canada) Nicky Wilson (UK) For some months now we've been preparing for next year's WCPT congress in Cape Town, in expectation that it will … [Read more...] about Another busy year for the CPN Exec
