Abstracts open for the 8th In Sickness and In Health conference

15/10/2019 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

The ISIH conference is one of the few truly critical health conferences available to members of the CPN. For the last five years, members have met at the conference, and delivered talks. We now have the new conference announcement and the call for abstracts. (Note the closing date as the end of October). We will look to another CPN get-together at in Lleida, and perhaps even organise another Salon. Here, though, are the details... WHERE NEXT FOR CRITICAL HEALTH STUDIES? ADVANCING UNDERSTANDINGS OF HEALTH AND THE FUTURE OF HEALTH CARE  Contemporary concerns for health equity, people’s unequal access to affordable care, pervasive health governance, ethically questionable … [Read more...] about Abstracts open for the 8th In Sickness and In Health conference

27/06/2019 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

The Latin American Centre for Development of Physiotherapy and Kinesiology and the Colombian Physiotherapy Association are looking to invite a keynote speaker to their IX Meeting of Academics in Physiotherapy and VIII ELA. The meeting will be held in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia on October 30 and 31 of 2019 (but presentations can also be pre-recorded or given online at distance). The meeting will focus on the training of physiotherapists as first contact professionals - both the opportunities and challenges, as well as the issues faced by the social, normative and political contexts in different countries. We would be grateful to hear from you or colleagues that you know who … [Read more...] about Keynote opportunity

Experiments in Physiotherapy Education – Unconference #1

04/02/2019 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

To coincide with this year's WCPT Congress in Geneva, Michael Rowe, Ben Ellis, and the rest of our good friends at InBeta will be hosting the first In Beta Experiments in Physiotherapy Education Unconference on the 14th and 15th May 2019 at Haute Ecole de Santé Vaud (HESAV) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The idea is to break away from the traditional conference format and try something new. At a traditional conference, the programme is designed in advance and the only choices you have are which pre-prepared sessions you attend.  A bit like going to a restaurant with a set menu.  But sometimes you just want to get a few friends around the barbeque and cook whatever people bring.  This is an … [Read more...] about Experiments in Physiotherapy Education – Unconference #1

The Costs of Translation

05/02/2018 by jennysetchell 1 Comment

hello, bonjour, selamat, dobry (hello in many languages)

This blog post was submitted to the CPN from long time member Shaun Cleaver and colleague Anne Hudon. It raises the issue of the language diversity. This is certainly an issue we have not thoroughly addressed within the CPN: our executive meetings, and all of our international gatherings to date, have been/are conducted entirely in English (including the CPN Salon in South Africa and our un-conference in Wales), and although our website has some translated content (and a widget to translate most other content into a few languages) most remains in English. The Costs of Translation Dans ma vie quotidienne – familiale, sociale, et professionnelle – je communique entièrement en … [Read more...] about The Costs of Translation

Celebrations over, now back to work

11/07/2017 by Dave Nicholls Leave a Comment

By anyone's estimations, the CPN events at the WCPT Congress in Cape Town this last week were a huge success.  Thanks goes to a lot of people, not least Jenny Setchell, Michael Rowe and Nicky Wilson in Cape Town and Gwyn Owen in Cardiff, for organising and running things. Here are some highlights: The biggest face-to-face meeting of the CPN Exec we've ever been able to hold, as a time for reflection on the Network's future; A Focused Symposium that ran like clockwork and delivered to around 200 people, with four fantastic founding members of the Network delivering powerful, thought-provoking, and often challenging material; A series of workshops and papers presented by CPN … [Read more...] about Celebrations over, now back to work
