To coincide with this year's WCPT Congress in Geneva, Michael Rowe, Ben Ellis, and the rest of our good friends at InBeta will be hosting the first In Beta Experiments in Physiotherapy Education Unconference on the 14th and 15th May 2019 at Haute Ecole de Santé Vaud (HESAV) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The idea is to break away from the traditional conference format and try something new. At a traditional conference, the programme is designed in advance and the only choices you have are which pre-prepared sessions you attend. A bit like going to a restaurant with a set menu. But sometimes you just want to get a few friends around the barbeque and cook whatever people bring. This is an … [Read more...] about Experiments in Physiotherapy Education – Unconference #1
A short CPN update
' A few noteworthy events have happened at CPN Towers over the last few weeks. CPN Exec calls for more critical scholarship Firstly, an editorial written by various members of the CPN Exec appeared in Physiotherapy Canada today. Titled Infusing Rehabilitation with Critical Research and Scholarship: A Call to Action, the paper followed a conversation with Prof Dina Brooks after our last CPN Salon in Cape Town last year. Dina challenged the CPN to do more to explain criticality to physiotherapists, and this paper was part of that conversation (full pdf here). Planning for 2019 Secondly, we had our end-of-year strategic planning meeting last week and had the full Executive present: myself … [Read more...] about A short CPN update
CPN Salon 2019
Many of you who attended our last CPN Salon at the last WCPT meeting in Cape Town will remember what a fantastic day we had. Meeting so many members face-to-face, as well as the great presentations and fabulous venue made for a memorable day. We're starting to make plans for a repeat event in Geneva, probably on the day after the WCPT Congress, and we'd like to know if you'd be interested in attending. We plan to run the day in a similar way to the last one, so there will be some talks, some workshops, and, of course, some hearty debate and discussion. So if you'd keen to know more or register your interest, please email Jenny Setchell and she will add you to the contact … [Read more...] about CPN Salon 2019
The first ever Free Critical Physiotherapy Online Course is coming
We've been planning to run a free online course on thinking critically about physiotherapy for some years, but now we are happy to announce that it has finally come to fruition. A team of CPN members have been thinking about the kind of course that we would want for months now, and we have taken our time to try to develop a program that we think you will find interesting and exciting. The course is grounded in practical, everyday physiotherapy challenges, but uses the experience of physiotherapists who have a deep knowledge of theory and philosophy to expand on the ways we currently think about these situations and issues. Is autonomy really a good thing for physiotherapists? … [Read more...] about The first ever Free Critical Physiotherapy Online Course is coming

What’s next – A critical physiotherapy course perhaps?
One thing you can definitely say about the CPN is that we like a project. We try to keep a lot of things consistent (blogging, meetings, social media, etc), but also run large projects in the background (collaborative articles, presentations and books). And having just published Manipulating practices, it's time to think what's next. We've been talking for some time about developing an on-line international course in critical thinking, but until this week it was only the germ of an idea. Yesterday I hosted a video conference with some members from the CPN, to talk about what a course might look like. Here were our preliminary thoughts: There are probably three audiences for a … [Read more...] about What’s next – A critical physiotherapy course perhaps?
